Using Your Thoughts to Shape Your Healing

3–5 minutes

Hey there, my Friend.

There was a time when I didn’t consciously realize how much power my thoughts had over my body. I believed that my health challenges were completely physical, merely the unknowable result of bad luck, bad genes, or just “life happening.”

But quietly, underneath the doctors’ visits, procedures, test results and diagnosis, there humming just under the surface was a steady, unnoticed pattern of stressful thoughts. Worrying thoughts. Hopeless thoughts. Resigned thoughts. I told myself I was being “realistic” in the face of my life circumstances. A single mom of twins, an outsider trying to climb a peanut-butter-coated career ladder, a woman trying to have a satisfying social life. Like so many of us, I was TRYING to fill at least 4 roles in life at any given time. I am only 1 person, just like we all are only 1 person.

I didn’t realize that every fearful thought was sending chemical messengers through my body — fueling inflammation, depleting my immune system, and keeping me locked in survival mode. It wasn’t until my dramatic medical turning point that I began to ask a different question:

What if my body isn’t just reacting to life…What if it’s reacting to my thoughts about life?

And today, I invite you to step through it with me and to explore what your mind might be silently creating inside your body, even now.

How Your Thoughts Become Your Biology

Modern science finally backs up what ancient wisdom has always known; Your thoughts shape your body. Here’s how it happens:

Thoughts spark electrical impulses in your brain;

These impulses trigger chemical messengers — hormones and neurotransmitters like cortisol and adrenaline;

These chemicals flood your bloodstream; and

Your cells react, changing their behavior in real time (& over time).

It’s not just poetic, it’s proven. When we think stress-filled thoughts, we produce stress chemicals. When we think peaceful, empowering thoughts, we flood our bodies with calming chemical messengers like dopamine and oxytocin.

Three Ways Your Mind Shapes Your Body

Through hypnosis and deep inner work, I discovered three powerful truths:

  1. Belief Alters Biology

In the early days after my diagnosis, every time I thought, “I’m dying,” my body reacted with more inflammation, exhaustion, and fear than I already had. Through hypnosis, I learned to change the belief under the surface: “My body knows how to heal.” Research in epigenetics confirms it: beliefs can literally turn genes on or off.

  1. Imagery Speaks Louder Than Words

In hypnosis, I began visualizing my body restoring itself to health and calm. I began to practice mindful breathing to ward off the panic of not being able to breathe. And my brain doesn’t know the difference between visualization and reality so it responded as if it were happening out here in the real world. Over time, those imagined scenes became real: my breathing eased and increased, my inflammation dropped, and my heart rate slowed. Your body believes the pictures you show it.

  1. Emotion Writes the Blueprint

The most profound shift came when I learned to take control of my emotional state. It isn’t about faking happiness. It is about finding peace beneath the fear. Research shows that emotions like gratitude, hope, and compassion quite literally create more coherent, healing patterns in our bodies’ systems.

A Simple Practice for You: Thought Alchemy with Sound

Here’s a gentle practice to begin transforming your thought patterns:

🌿 Find a quiet place to sit comfortably.

🌿 Breathe deeply, letting your exhale be a little longer than your inhale.

🌿 Identify a thought that feels heavy or limiting.

🌿 On your exhale, hum a soft “Ah” sound, imagining that thought dissolving.

🌿 Now call in a healing thought — something hopeful, true, and kind.

🌿 As you exhale again, hum a long “Om,” imagining the thought soaking into your cells.

🌿 Continue for a few minutes, alternating between releasing as you exhale and anchoring as you inhale.

Your voice, your breath, and your intention are powerful tools for change. Your body is listening. And you get to decide what it hears next. If you’re curious about how hypnosis and sound healing can support your healing journey, I’d love to walk beside you.
